The Cheapest Holiday Destination on Earth: And the Winner is …

The airport transfer website Hoppa has come up with their annual price index for holiday destinations again. A city most of us know is the cheapest destination on the list. It starts with an “S” and is the capital of a country called Bulgaria.

The index is based on the total cost for an accommodation, along with a meal, a drink, a taxi ride and some entertainment. In Sofia, the price tag for all of that combined is 38.21 Pounds Sterling, the equivalent of 44.81 Euro. Sure, whoever came up with this price did not stay at a luxury hotel and did not fall for mafia taxis. But it sounds realistic. Sofia hit the 84th place for being the cheapest destination.

The next four cheap places would be Cairo (Egypt), Cartagena (Colombia), Bucharest (Romania) and Antalya (Turkey), with similar prices. This means that three out of the five cheapest destinations are located in three countries which are connected by borders: Romania, Bulgaria and Turkey.

Yes, the list about destinations has another end. The first place, for the most expensive destination, goes to Zurich (Switzerland, yes, that one). Here, an accommodation, along with a meal, a drink, a taxi ride and some entertainment would be 170.43 Pounds Sterling, or 199.87 Euro. That is almost five times as much as in Sofia.

Which are the next four destinations on places 2 to 5? New York, Copenhagen, Oslo and Stockholm. Hell, in any of these cities, just looking at a cup of coffee would probably cost at least 7 Euro. And the sky is the limit. Regarding New York, they probably mean Manhattan.
