Extremely Cold Morning in Bulgaria: Weather Warning in Place

Written by on January 27, 2017 in Bulgaria, Latest - No comments

A Code Yellow weather warning was in place for all of Bulgaria this morning, due to extremely low temperatures in the morning. Code Yellow means the weather is potentially dangerous. People should be attentive. In some cases, warnings of this kind were changed in the later morning hours. This one, for the entire country, was in place at 05:00 a.m. today.

While morning temperatures along the Bulgarian Black Sea coast were relatively mild in comparison, with -6 degrees Centigrade in Burgas and -9 degrees in Varna, and while Yambol and Sliven had comparable forecasts, the rest of Bulgaria was in for more.

In large parts of central Bulgaria, -13 to -15 degrees were expected this morning. Towards the south, thing were worse. In Pazardzhik and Plovdiv, -17 degrees were forecast, in Smolyan even -18 degrees.

In most of the western part of Bulgaria, from Kyustendil to Vidin, including Sofia, things did not look too nice either, with morning temperatures from -14 to -16 degrees.

This is not the first weather warning this year. Nor is this the first cold spill.
