New Code Yellow weather warnings are in place for most of Bulgaria. The warnings are valid for today, mainly due to heavy snowfall.

These are the regions affected: Burgas, Dobrich, Gabrovo, Haskovo, Kardjali, Lovech, Montana, Pazardjik, Pleven, Plovdiv, Razgrad, Ruse, Shumen, Silistra, Sliven, Smolian, Stara Zagora, Targovishte, Varna, Veliko Tarnovo, Vidin, Vraca and Yambol. The short version: Almost all of Bulgaria is affected, with the exception of Blagoevgrad, Kyustendil, Pernik and Sofia.

For some regions, strong winds were forecast as well. They are Ruse, Shumen, Razgrad, Dobrich, Silistra, Targovishte and Varna.

Bulgaria is not exactly keen on getting back into harsh weather. Well, it’s not like we were not hit by snow, ice and winds extensively since the new year started.

On December 31st, 2016, the army invaded the nation’s highways, in order to pull vehicles out of the snow using tanks. Since then, there were countless days of weather warnings, with hundreds of villages cut off from the rest of the country as well as the grid.

Today, maximum daytime temperatures will range between -7 degrees Centigrade in north-western Bulgaria and up to 5 degrees in the east.
