Bulgarian Skiing Resort Bansko: Season Officially Opened

Written by on December 17, 2016 in Latest, Leisure, Miscellaneous - No comments

It was a perfect morning in the Bulgarian skiing resort Bansko, for several reasons. First of all, the sun was out. So were countless skiing enthusiasts, a pretty international bunch, who were racing down the slopes in perfect conditions. Oh, the cold? They did not give a damn.

Why else was it a great morning in Bansko? Because it always is. And because the skiing season was officially opened. Legendary skiers, colourful smoke above the piste and a media show marked the event. Yes, they have been skiing for well over two weeks already, but the official opening is the official opening.

The skiing resort, which keeps on winning awards for its slopes, lifts, atmosphere and prices, is located in south-western Bulgaria, in the Rila mountain range. It is easy to reach from Sofia Airport.

It gets even better: Our partners at Bansko Blog know everything there is to know about Bansko, the skiing paradise.

The resort has one tiny issue only: Bansko municipality is not too successful in collecting real estate taxes from many Britons who own apartments there, because, in many cases, their addresses in the U.K. have changed. Mayor Georgi Ikonomov was quoted by Bulgarian National Television, saying those taxes were not too high, but when they accumulated for seven to eight years, it was different. The British Consulate in Sofia helped by sending the municipality a link to a website they can use to find those who owe.
