Donations from Readers: Dog Food Collection for Animal Rescue Sofia

Written by on December 9, 2016 in Bulgaria, Latest - No comments

Our recent article on Animal Rescue Sofia, the largest privately run dog shelter in Bulgaria, and a collection started by a fellow expat, has triggered dog food donations. Anna, the Sofia-based lady who started this charity activity, just broke the good news: So far, 292 kilos of pet food have been donated. And she is waiting for more.

The dog and cat food collected will not last forever at a kennel like Animal Rescue Sofia, since they accommodate hundreds of dogs, and because, in order to stay as warm as possible in winter, dogs eat twice as much as they would in summer. Still, it is a big contribution, but more is always needed.

On December 10th, 2016, which is tomorrow, the pet food Anna collected will be transported to the kennel. Until then, there is still time for pet food donations. Anna, the lady who organizes the collection, can be reached here (via Facebook Messenger or the regular Facebook messaging system). Anna speaks Polish, Bulgarian, English and German.

Animal Rescue Sofia houses dogs until they are being adopted by kind people, who would provide a loving home for them. The NGO tests applicants, meaning there is a procedure people willing to adopt one of their dogs have to go through. Expats adopt more dogs from the kennel, than Bulgarians do. Also, many dogs are being exported to Western Europe.

In order to be able to house and feed all those dogs, Animal Rescue Sofia always needs donations, which can be made via their website.
