Bulgarian publisher Colibri has invited Meir Shalev to Sofia, in co-operation with the Israeli embassy in Bulgaria. The bestselling author will present the Bulgarian version of his novel “A Pigeon and a Boy” on November 29 2016, at 7pm at the Peroto literary club. The Bulgarian title would be “Момчето с гълъбите”.
It is a novel about two love stories developing in different times, but which are connected, a tale of lovers then and now, which explains why we are like pigeons, flying in one direction only. For this book, Shalev was awarded the Israeli Brenner Prize.
“Esau”, originally written in 1991, is another novel of his, which is available in Bulgarian.
Meir Shalev, who is 68, released his first publication, a children’s book entitled “Michael and the Monster of Jerusalem”, in 1982.
Since then, he has released a total of seven children’s books, three non-fictional ones, as well as eight novels.
Meir Shalev is also a newspaper columnist, for the daily Yedioth Ahronoth.
Shalev’s books have been translated into 26 languages so far, including Bulgarian. “A Pigeon and a Boy” is the most translated Israeli novel.
