Sofia, Bulgaria: Snow and Freezing Air are Six Days Away

Written by on November 24, 2016 in Bulgaria, Miscellaneous - No comments

“I’m dreaming of a white Christmas” is the first line of that song. No. Most Sofia inhabitants are not. “Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way …”. No. “Oh, what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleigh.” No, it isn’t. Because our sleighs are overcrowded buses or cars, which will get stuck in the expected, huge holiday mess.

It gets even better: Snow is coming in, according to the forecasters. Next Tuesday. That is also when temperatures are supposed to slump badly, to 0 degrees during the day and minus 5 at night. Wednesday will be even colder, if the weather people are right, once in a lifetime.

So, if we really had a horse in front of a sleigh, with jingle bells, the poor animal would inhale Diesel clouds. And we would be freezing our butts off.

The two words we should all have on our minds: winter tires (American spelling). Besides, where have we stored our winter boots? Yes, it is time to work out the answer to that too.

The advantage of the upcoming winter mess in Sofia? Well, ….. hmmm. Maybe the fact that the German Christmas Market at City Garden will look even nicer.

Yes, we will all see each other in malls, which will be just as overcrowded as the buses and trams which will be taking us there. Or we will meet in the driveways of full parking garages, inhaling out own car pollution, and honking at each other.
