There is nothing worse, nothing more disgusting and nothing more despicable than what the German Wehrmacht did in Kyiv, 75 years ago today, on September 29 1941. Exactly 33 771 Ukrainian Jews were ordered to assemble at Babi Yar, in the outskirts of the city, and then murdered in cold blood. Only 29 Jews on site survived one of the worst massacres ever.
Among the victims were children, including Anna, Malvina and Polina (see photo), women and men of all ages.
The decision for this crime against humanity was taken by Generalmajor Kurt Eberhard, SS-Obergruppenführer Friedrich Jeckeln and Kommandeur Otto Rasch. The so-called Sonderkommando 4a committed the mass murder.
We will leave it to others to get into this terrible day in history more.
