Written by on August 21, 2016 in Bulgaria - No comments

Since this weekend started on Saturday morning, there has been a high number of traffic accidents and road deaths in Bulgaria. According to the Ministry of the Interior, four people have died and 29 were injured in 21 major accidents.

In addition, 58 minor accidents happened. In these cases, cars were damaged, but nobody was injured.

This year, about 400 people have been killed in traffic accidents in Bulgaria, so far, or about two per day, on average. Far more than 5,000 people have been injured. During the summer holiday season, the number of accidents usually increased.

The danger of car accidents in Bulgaria is higher than in most other European countries, since the state of many cars and roads in Bulgaria is bad. Reckless driving, especially on the country’s motorways, is not being avenged effectively.

In their Travel Warnings sections, embassies of several states notify travellers about the bad road conditions in the entire Balkan region, including Bulgaria.
