Hemus Highway: Bulgaria Preparing Tender for Construction of Segment

Written by on August 16, 2016 in Bulgaria, Business, Economy - No comments

Bulgaria is making final preparations for a tender, in connection with Hemus Highway from Sofia to Varna. This tender is about one stretch, 16.5 kilometers in length, between Belokopitovo and Targovishte.

Another tender, for a different segment, was opened in July of 2016. Yet another one was terminated in February, due to irregularities. According to the Road Infrastructure Agency, the total length of Hemus Highway will be 433 kilometers.

At this stage, drivers on their way from Sofia to Varna use conventional country roads, many of which are in bad condition. Some travellers use Trakia Highway to Burgas, in order to travel north on the coastal B-road afterwards.

Once completed, Hemus Highway might slash the travel time from Sofia to Varna in half.
