For her movie “Godless”, Bulgarian director Ralitsa Petrova was awarded the Golden Leopard at the Film Festival Locarno in Switzerland. “Godless”, her debut film, convinced both the festival jury and audience.
The film story is set in a poor town in northern Bulgaria, where time seems to be standing still. A nurse, who went through a difficult childhood, looks after dementia patients. While she does, she abuses their I.D. cards in a criminal way. In this movie, every single aspect seems to be dark. There are no values, but disappointment only, through several generations.
The leading actress of “Godless”, Irena Ivanova, also won a prize as Best Actress.
