Fast Food in Sofia: Good Doner Kebap Made by an Expat Lawyer

Whoever has tried Doner Kebap in neighbouring Turkey or in Berlin-Neukölln (Little Istanbul), will be able to differentiate between the real thing and the forgery. Making Doner Kebap is an art form not everyone is good at. Especially in Sofia, some Doner people do not provide the kind of quality one should expect. Nor are they friendly. As you have already guessed, there is at least one exception.

In the very center of Sofia, Hussein Bader (see photo) makes Doner of good quality for a more than reasonable price. Located next to a pet store, on Ul. Ekzarh Yosif, between Ul. Serdica and Ul. Veslets, this little place has a friendly atmosphere too, because Hussein is not just good at making Doner, but he serves his customers with a lot friendliness. This even applied after he accidentally burned his left hand in boiling oil, the other day. Good customers, who go there almost every day, will even get a piece on falafel to consume, at times, while they wait.

Hussein was not always a Doner guy. He studied law in Damascus, until things turned bad in Syria. That was when he came to Bulgaria, two years ago. Doner? Hussein is the guy.

His helper and the cashier are very kind as well.
