Downtown Sofia: A Wonderful Saturday Evening Walk (Timeline)

19:22 hrs.: Leaving for the walk.

19:29 hrs.: At the corner of Ul. Shipka and Ul. Kliment Ohridski, a gentleman wearing headphones and only one shoe, maybe a “party animal”, is sleeping in a weird position, on the pavement.

19:37 hrs.: Damn. It’s hot.

19:41 hrs.: It hasn’t gotten any colder. The opposite seems to be the case.

19:44 hrs.: The fountain at the Ivan Vasov Theater looks beautiful. Wondering whether all fountains might need to be turned off, due to the heat. Well, there does not seem to be any water shortage.

19:46 hrs.: Wow! The city, in cooperation with organizations, has put up a tiny exhibition of pictures showing the history of trams in Sofia. Part of that history is still on the tracks today. Dondukov, some 100 years ago, looks a lot smoother than the roller coaster it is today.

20:02 hrs.: Hitting Vitosha Boulevard, Sofia’s Champs Elysees (exactly). In spite of the ongoing summer vacation, the pedestrian zone is crowded.

20:14 hrs.: Two police officers seem to be getting some street dancers into trouble, who were trying to entertain pedestrians on Vitosha Boulevard.

20:19 hrs.: There is not much left of Boulevard Patriarch Ephtimi.

20:26 hrs.: Everyone is taking pics in front of the NDK, at the fountains, in wonderful light.

20:40 hrs.: Finally. The Bridge of Lovers. Another photo exhibition, “Feathers and Lakes”. Not too interesting, the way it was set up.

21:09 hrs.: Cooling down at Billa at the university Metro station. A watermelon juice? Sure, let’s make some. Guess who will be carrying the bags. We should have rented a truck.

21:31 hrs.: Home, sweet home.

21:51 hrs.: Watermelon juice. Recommended!

Blvd. Dondukov? Smooth and nice? Are you kidding me?
