Fire fighters, volunteers and even police are still fighting a huge wildfire near Toplovgrad, in southern Bulgaria. According to the authorities, the fire had a diameter of approximately 5 kilometers and has caused a lot of damage to plants and trees already.
By now, the flames are under control, even though some fires are still raging in several locations.
In an interview with Focus Radio, the mayor of Toplovgrad said yesterday, thousands of acres of land had been destroyed. There was no danger for villages or towns.
Because of the ongoing heatwave, several wildfire warnings had been released in the past days. The danger will not be band, as long as the country is engulfed by the current heatwave. A year ago, several fires caused damage as well. In some cases, it took days to extinguish the flames.
