At Bulgaria’s Black Sea Coast: The Most Beautiful Castle Ever

Some of us have been driving that road from Chernomorets towards Sinemorets quite a few times. And every time we look towards the right, some kilometers to the west from Sozopol, one question comes to our minds: “What in the hell is that?”. The answer sounds simple: It is the only newly built castle in Europe. But it really is anything but simple.

George Tumpalov, a former wrestling professional, had a dream, which he started implementing twenty years ago. He wanted a castle. So, he picked the location and started working, by investing a lot of time, muscle and something called money. The outcome? The most beautiful castle ever, in a region not known for buildings of this kind. Its name: “In Love With the Wind”.

The castle’s style consists of a mixture of elements found in different periods, including Renaissance. If any building, anywhere in Europe, is unique, it is this one. They used 20,000 tons of stone, extracted from the mountains in Southern Bulgaria. The material is more than 200 million years old, according to Tumpalov’s website.

It gets even better: The castle is accessible to the public. They offer teambuildings for companies, treasure hunts, photo sessions plus a lot more. You want to feel like a queen or king in Western Europe, 500 years ago? This is your place.
