Bulgarian Prime Minister and Republic of Macedonia president Gjorge Ivanov have agreed on joint measures to suppress trafficking of migrants along the Bulgarian-Macedonian border, the government media service in Sofia said on March 17 2016.

Borissov spoke on the phone with Ivanov, discussing the worsening problem of refugees and possible ways of disrupting the smuggling of migrants along the mutual border between the two countries, the statement said.

Borissov and Ivanov agreed that in the coming days there would be joint Bulgarian-Macedonian operations by air and land to secure and control the border.

The Bulgarian Prime Minister expressed his concern about the situation in the Western Balkans in the context of the refugee crisis and said that after sending humanitarian aid to Idomeni, Greece, humanitarian aid, the government now was preparing aid for refugees in the Republic of Macedonia.
