German embassy to mark fall of Berlin Wall with ‘run to freedom’ in Sofia and Varna

The German embassy in Bulgaria is one of 80 German embassies and consulates-general worldwide inviting participants to mark the anniversary of the November 9 1989 fall of the Berlin Wall by taking part in a “run to freedom” event on November 9.

In Bulgaria, the events will be held in capital city Sofia and in the Black Sea city of Varna.

Participants can choose between a 5km run and a two km walk. In Sofia, the event starts at 2pm on November 9 2014 at the Berlin Wall monument near the National Palace of Culture, ending in the main avenue in South Park.

The event in Sofia is being organised jointly with the NGO 5kmrun.bg and is under the patronage of the mayor of Sofia, Yordanka Fandukova. Those who want to take part can pre-register at the 5kmrun.bg website.

The run in Varna will take place in the Sea Garden, also at 2pm, from the entrance to the Sea Garden to the sundial.
